#6 -adidas 60th anniversary house party - singapore

adidas singapore celebrated 60 years of stars & stripes on february 27th, getting the night started at a very precise 19:49 - to stand for the year adidas was born. held at the timberlux warehouse, we were greeted by a row of vespas that competed for their own version of 'best-dressed'. once in, the house of adidas spared no expense in introducing you to their brand origins and brand ambassadors, as they adorn the walls with framed photos & funky wall art.

host oli pettigrew came on & singapore's fave local band electrico took the stage & rocked it. butter factory resident beat-boxer dharni then showed what his craft was all about before it was time for the fashion show, where the models were obviously told to have fun while at it - perhaps a tad too much, as they got jiggy wit' it, & danced, & danced...

love love love the DJ setup, which was made to look like a giant adidas shoebox! Guest DJs Shinichi Osawa & Masatoshi Uemera definitely got the real party started. props to adidas for a night of fun! sans one particular encountered male ego.

#4 - QuadCamera App, Meet my iphone!

I just purchased the QuadCamera App for my iphone for U.S$1.99 off my itunes store.

It holds the record for first ever paid application for my iphone - because for once, this app warrants the fee. Termed 'the photo effector for iphone', it quite simply functions like a lomo, but with a broader spectrum whereby it can take a layout of 2x2, 4x1, 4x2 or 8x1 images consecutively, with a minimum timer of 0.25s between each frame to a maximum of 3s. Furthermore, the color can be displayed in 4 varying modes: standard color, vivid, hi-con or grayscale.

A main difference between the lomo and having this app on my iphone is the instant gratification that digital images can provide. Nonetheless, digital still pales in comparison to actual film (which lomo cameras use) in bringing across the real and raw emotion of the shot. But it doesn't hurt to have a substitute in the Quadcamera app, especially in such economically challenging times!

Here comes (an extremely) trigger happy me! :)

#3 – Painting the Night Sky

when i remarked on how precise a full moon emerged on the 15th & last night of every Chinese Lunar New Year, a pal reminded me today that the lunar bit means the moon, and thus the moon-centric Chinese Lunar New Year Calendar.

last night was the 15th night for this Ox year, as the moon emerged in all its glory - 305,000km from Earth, compared to the average 350,000km. Despite being slightly dimmed from a penumbral eclipse (the moment where the moon is thrown into Earth's partial shadow), I had a brilliant sight of her from my home - pregnant, full and glowing in a rich hue of ivory.

Armed with my cam in slow shutter speed goodness, I did nothing else for the next 30 minutes but indulge innit and start drawing patterns in the sky with the moon...together with about 50% of the alphabet, which was all I could manage with out falling 3 storeys out the window!

check it out!

#2 – Brilliant Transience

You haven't done it all until you've lit fireworks all by yourself. In all its firepowder power: 3 words: Brilliant, Transient, Empowering. Oh, and neck-ache inducing, but totally worth it.

#1 - You can break the band’s backs, but you can’t break their spirit

The energy of eager anticipation could be felt on Feb 3rd at Fort Canning Park; it was hot and sticky, and everything else that goes with that. Prodigy, the controversial UK electro-punk-rave band that popularized their head-thumping breakbeats through their 90's hits like Out of Space, Voodoo People, Smack My Bitch Up and Firestarter, was due to play in Singapore.

A DJ got the vibe going by spinning Prodigy-esque tracks that set the atmosphere, but it wasn't until a full hour and a half *yawn* before the legendary Prodigy trio came on to embrace the loud cheering, and by then - a 2000 strong crowd that engulfed the grounds. Surreal. A significantly older Keith Flint took the stage with Maxim Reality and Liam Howlett and this aggressively charged trip didn't let slip of a chance to show the audience that they still had what it takes to rock the stage.

What I don't get is how some people can't do the jumping dance in one spot. Ok, granted balance can be an issue, let's give them a 15cm radius. But noOooO... these species take a minimum leap of 0.5m, and graduate to 1m - completely disregarding the fact that fellow human beings are in the way. I mean, yes I understand your excitement - but taking down an average built Asian chick by gutting her on her sides and throwing her on her sides is not cool. Talk about chivalry being dead.

This is a shot of one such specimen  >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Through it all, the strobe lights alternated between hues of green, red, blue and white, as if taking its cue from the hair(and hand) raising energy that radiated from the MCs that oh-so commanded the stage, as they cast their spell over the hypnotically entranced audience.

Does Prodigy still have what it takes? Hell Yeah!!
