#1 - You can break the band’s backs, but you can’t break their spirit

The energy of eager anticipation could be felt on Feb 3rd at Fort Canning Park; it was hot and sticky, and everything else that goes with that. Prodigy, the controversial UK electro-punk-rave band that popularized their head-thumping breakbeats through their 90's hits like Out of Space, Voodoo People, Smack My Bitch Up and Firestarter, was due to play in Singapore.

A DJ got the vibe going by spinning Prodigy-esque tracks that set the atmosphere, but it wasn't until a full hour and a half *yawn* before the legendary Prodigy trio came on to embrace the loud cheering, and by then - a 2000 strong crowd that engulfed the grounds. Surreal. A significantly older Keith Flint took the stage with Maxim Reality and Liam Howlett and this aggressively charged trip didn't let slip of a chance to show the audience that they still had what it takes to rock the stage.

What I don't get is how some people can't do the jumping dance in one spot. Ok, granted balance can be an issue, let's give them a 15cm radius. But noOooO... these species take a minimum leap of 0.5m, and graduate to 1m - completely disregarding the fact that fellow human beings are in the way. I mean, yes I understand your excitement - but taking down an average built Asian chick by gutting her on her sides and throwing her on her sides is not cool. Talk about chivalry being dead.

This is a shot of one such specimen  >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Through it all, the strobe lights alternated between hues of green, red, blue and white, as if taking its cue from the hair(and hand) raising energy that radiated from the MCs that oh-so commanded the stage, as they cast their spell over the hypnotically entranced audience.

Does Prodigy still have what it takes? Hell Yeah!!
